Having a do?
Choosing a DJ for a function is no easy task, I mean how do you pick an good one? Most DJ's get bookings through recommendations, myself included. The best way is to drop them an email and then have a good old fashioned conversation over the phone. You can generally get a feel for a DJ just by having a chat. Depending on the type of function I will also try to meet up beforehand to go through music choices and format for the day/evening. From experience this can and often does, make all the difference. Most people tend to play it by ear which is fine, others like a structure to their party. I have been in the events and catering industry for many years so I have good experience and knowledge of what works and what doesn't.
I guess choosing a DJ also comes down to budget. Would you honestly pay £800 for a DJ for 4 hours? I wouldn't! I work around your budget and charge what I would be prepared to pay. I'm not cheap but I am certainly not expensive. Expensive doesn't necessarily mean good. There are loads of good DJ's out there all for different tastes and budgets, levels of kit and price range. Set your self a budget and go from there. Some charge extra for longer distances, smoke machines, lasers, stairs, set up time, and even different types of set ups (???).
Good kit (PAT tested) Public Liability Insurance are the norm for DJ's nowadays, myself included. Check with your venue provider if these are required. Good DJ's will happliy show the venue their certificates. I carry my PLI, PAT and DBS certificates with me at all times.
If you have found this helpful, great, you are on your way to finding the right DJ for your function, I'm just a quick email away.
